Greene County High School senior Elise Badger was named the 2023 Greene County Fair queen Wednesday evening.
Her selection followed two earlier interviews with judges and responses to a pair of random questions. She will represent Greene County in the Iowa State Fair queen contest next month. She also received a $500 scholarship provided by Humboldt Mutual Insurance, represented locally by Kingsgate Insurance.
2022 Greene County Fair queen Hannah Curtis talked briefly about her experience at the State Fair queen contest last year before naming her successor.
Other fair queen candidates were Chanlynn Cunningham, Taylor McDowell, and Shai Woodley.
Judges for the fair queen contest were Alicia Heun, Karen Shannon, and 2021 Greene County Fair queen Ashlynn Frederick. The contest was organized by fair board member Katlynn Mechelsen.
